Gas Credit Cards - What are they?
Gas credit cards are a type of reward card that not only awards points for general purchases, but also awards bonus points for the purchase of gasoline. Generally speaking you will earn 1 point per dollar spent on everyday purchases and anything up to 5 points per dollar spent at specific gas stations.
How do these type of cards work?
Gas credit cards work in exactly the same way as all other credit cards in that you purchase everyday items with them, receive a statement at the end of each month and either clear the balance or pay the minimum due (a very simplified explanation).

The main difference between gas credit cards and other types of reward cards is that you can earn huge numbers of bonus points when you buy gasoline with your card. So, if your normal award rate is 1 point per dollar spent, you'll probably get double or triple this rate (or even more) for gasoline purchases.

Some gas credit card issuers also offer these enhanced rates for other automobile related purchases e.g. tyres and car maintenance services.

The points you earn can then be redeemed against future gasoline purchases or against a variety of other products specified by your particular card issuer. These often include things like gift cards, restaurant meals, merchandise, groceries and entertainment.

Who would benefit from this type of credit card?
Evidently, anyone who uses a lot of gas would benefit from a gas credit card. So for example, independent cab drivers, long distance couriers, people who travel by car a lot either for business or pleasure as well as those who run small businesses with several automobiles would all benefit.

You do of course have to use filling stations that are part of the points award scheme but in general this isn't difficult to do. Having said that, if you live out in the middle of  nowhere, it would certainly be sensible to check the terms of the card issuer to be sure your local station is eligible.

The best Gas Credit Card offers for the current week...
Whilst other finance websites usually list vast numbers of available credit card offers on a single page, in our view, all that does is create confusion (and a lot of research work) for you, the consumer. We've done all that work for you.
