What are Points Credit Cards?
They
are
a
specific
type
of
reward
card
where
you
get
awarded
with
points
every
time
you
make
a
purchase.
The
number
of
points
you
earn
varies
depending
on
what
you
buy
and
who
your
card
issuer
is,
but
generally
you
get
1
point
per
dollar
spent.
You
can
then
redeem
your
points
for
things
like
gift
cards,
travel
discounts
and
merchandise.
How do they work?
They
work
in
exactly
the
same
way
as
other
credit
cards,
you
just
get
the
added
bonus
of
free
stuff
for
continued
use.
Every
time
you
use
your
card
to
make
a
purchase
you
are
awarded
with
an
associated
number
of
points.
So for example, if you spend $100 on groceries you earn 100 points, which is generally equivalent to $1 when you redeem. This may not seem like much but it is a free dollar at the end of the day and the dollars can add up!
Occasionally some card issuers offer double points when you shop in specific stores, or double points when you buy gasoline from certain filling stations. With these special offers, points can quickly stack up.
Who would
benefit from
this type of
credit card?
People
who
do a
lot
of
travelling,
as a
lot
of
airlines
now
do
their
own
points
credit
cards
that
give
great
discounts
off
internal
and
international
airfares.
Big
spenders
(even
if
they
shouldn't
be),
as
depending
on
which
card
you
have,
points
can
be
collected
when
shopping
at
department
stores.
Be sure to
choose your
card carefully.
Like
with
most
reward
based
credit
cards,
which
one
you
apply
for
should
be
determined
by
your
lifestyle,
where
you
would
gain
the
maximum
amount
of
points,
and
if
you
will
be
able
to
redeem
your
points
against
things
you
actually
want
and
will
make
use
of.
So
make
sure
you
read
carefully
how
and
when
you
can
collect
points
and
how
you
can
redeem
them.
